Strawberry Cinnamon Sauce

Strawberry Cinnamon Sauce

Yogurt can be a health promoting food full of live and active cultures (aka probiotics). However most of the flavored yogurts for sale are loaded with added sugar (or worse, artificial sweeteners) and devoid of fat. When selecting yogurt go for plain, whole milk (full-fat) options. If you have been eating the flavored stuff this new option might take some adjustment. One way I find helps is serving it with a naturally sweet fruit sauce. This strawberry sauce is easy to make and the addition of vanilla and cinnamon naturally enhance our sweet perception, even without added sugar. Can't do dairy but miss yogurt? Try subbing a coconut based yogurt made with live and active cultures.

Strawberry Cinnamon Sauce

Prep time:

Total time:

Ingredients:
  • 2 cups organic strawberries, stems removed (fresh or frozen and thawed)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Directions:
  1. Blend all ingredients in a blender until smooth.
  2. Serve over yogurt (or even cottage cheese). Sprinkle with a few nuts or seeds for an extra bit of healthy fat and fiber.
  3. Store refrigerated.
  4. Tip: Coconut yogurt is a great source of fat but doesn’t contain the protein that dairy-based yogurts do. Consider stirring in a scoop of collagen peptides to coconut yogurt to keep everything in balance.
