How can nutrition help You?

  • Nutrition can help you make the connection between what you eat and how you feel.

  • A nutritionist works with the whole person, considering lifestyle habits like sleep, stress, movement, self-talk, medical history, and current symptoms along with the foods you eat as part of a holistic and personalized plan.

  • Amber uses an anti-diet, gentle nutrition approach based on the principles of Intuitive Eating to help you find your personal balance of health and pleasure in food.

What is Intuitive Eating?

  • Intuitive Eating is a mind-body framework of ten principles that can help you improve your relationship with food and your body.

  • It rejects diet culture and helps you relearn how to listen to and trust internal cues of hunger, fullness, and satisfaction rather than following external diet rules.

  • It is a weight-neutral approach to health.

What Does Weight-Neutral Mean?

  • Weight neutrality posits that body weight is not a valid indicator of one’s health.

  • Instead of focusing on the number on the scale as a marker of progress, a weight-neutral (sometimes called weight-inclusive) approach to nutrition focuses on building health promoting behaviors aligned with the Health At Every Size (HAES) principles.

  • Intentional weight loss, or dieting, is strongly associated with future weight gain and isn’t necessarily linked to greater health or longevity.

Amber understands many people have a strong desire to lose weight: she has been there herself. This struggle is something you can talk about openly and honestly during appointments.

How does nutrition counseling work?

Book an Initial Nutrition Consultation

  • Within a few minutes you will get an email invitation to join Practice Better, a HIPAA-secure portal that will be used for communication, scheduling, payments, and storing your private information.

  • A second email will invite you to complete intake paperwork. Please fill out the forms out at least 2 days before your first session.

  • Amber reviews the forms prior to your appointment. She uses the information you provide to start your personalized plan.

Attend Your First Session

  • Amber will review your history and goals while getting to know you better and answering your questions.

  • You will leave your appointment with a clear goal and action plan to start your nutrition journey.

Schedule Follow-Up Appointments

  • The timing for follow-up appointments is based on your personalized nutrition plan and your desire for structure and accountability, but the average is every 2-4 weeks.

  • The minimum suggested time to commit to working together is 4-6 months of regular follow-up appointments.

  • Between visits, you can message Amber in the Practice Better portal with questions or short updates.

Remember: you are learning new skills and habits, which takes time!

If you have additional questions please schedule a 15-minute complimentary phone consultation.
